So I just heard that some of the people who were on that USAIR flight that crash landed in the hudson river are suing USAIR!!!!!! WTF? Are they serious? I would be so happy to be alive that I would give them money for saving my life! These jokers are suing supposedly for mental stress and one guy got a bloody nose from the crash landing, so on and so forth!!! People are just so f*cked up these days! Anything for money. And the lawyer who is taking on their case should be kicked in the ass for making these idiots think they can get money from the airline! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! BE HAPPY YOU ARE ALIVE AFTER THAT KIND OF LIFE EXPERIENCE!!!
I received some awesome news today at work! They have not only decided to implement uniforms, even on the weekends when no outsiders are allowed into the building, but also decided to cut our hours back to 34 a week! Yippee!! How much does anyone want to bet that the big wigs and upper management at this large company won't be taking a pay cut? What's also laughable is that supposedly our BIG boss said he is very upset that he has to do this but at least he is not laying people off. Well buddy I am sure you are shedding tears over this at night aren'tya? How about you stop hiring so many people that way you wouldn't have to cut hours? Or how about you shut down service on the weekends because I am assuming that would save a heck of a lot more money than taking hours away from us. I should be thankful I have a job, but what keeps creeping into the back of my mind is that I now have to apply for government assistance to get through. Wonder if my reduction in hours will do anything.
So I just drove from downtown to Broadripple and back again and... where the hell are all the snow plows that I read about right before leaving the house?! They knew this shit was coming, everybody did, they've been warning us about it for days. So why weren't the streets being taken care of AT ALL?!
Here are a few of the streets on my route today: Delaware, 38th, College, Keystone, 70, Mass Ave, etc... Am I wrong, or are these some of the major streets in the city? I saw 4 plows TOTAL (on this 2 and a half hour trip). 3 had their plow UP and one was parked. WTF?!!
I have to say, people were driving pretty reasonably for the conditions, so that's good, but where the hell is the cavalry of snow plows that I heard the city was gonna deploy?!
Maybe we should throw another "Luau," Mayor Ballard, and keep on pretending winter just doesn't exist.
So I work in the dental field and I am so frustrated right now with insurance companies!!!! A patient came in the other day with a broken denture. I sent it to the lab to get fixed and the lab bill was $80. The insurance company pays me $75 and tells me I can't bill the patient for the difference. WTF????!!!!!!! So what they are telling me is that I just paid $5 to have this patient's denture fixed!!! So from now on I will refuse to fix dentures and send these patients away just because their insurance company hasn't raised their reimbursement rates since 1955!!!!!!!! Insurance companies are the biggest CROOKS out there!!! What makes me even angrier is that I told the patient before hand that he will have to pay the difference of what his insurance didn't pay and he even signed a paper stating that fact. But after he spoke with his insurance company he now says he doesn't have to pay. I told him I just paid out of my own pocket to fix his denture and he didn't care.
OK... So am I the only one who after 20 years of being forcefed John Mellencamp... wants to jab an inkpen in my eardrums everytime I hear another Mellencamp song on the radio?
I've never been one to care what other people think, especially about the music I listen to. People that tell me to turn my shitty punk noise down can get down with my man parts. Why is the live music schedule in Indianapolis cluttered with pop-country and alt rock that, quite frankly, all sounds the same to me? Where is the passion? Where is the heart in the music today? I'm sure that Nickleback fans love the radio and all of those 30-something women get the chills when Buck Cherry chugs through a meaningless song with no emotion or metaphor in sight. Singing about being a rock star is like a 5 star chef at McDonald's telling the 16 year old kid behind the counter that chicken nuggets suck. I'd like to bet that the trailer parks are empty when Kenny Chesney has sold out some huge venue.
I'm more than okay with other types of music than Punk Rock. I love a good country or indie band that does their own songs. They're probably heartfelt and real. I understand that I do not share the majority of opinion in the music listening population but would it kill one good punk band to come through our great city? Local bands are good, and I love what The Melody Inn is doing, but there are only so many local bands. Can those of us who would like to see a good show now and again, do what we can to get the bands we like booked near by?
It sounds like a Hardy Boys book, but this is actually happening in town. I guess two people are robbing kids at gunpoint while they're waiting for the bus. Seriously, what the hell? Is this really what it's come to? Stealing lunch money and ipods AT GUNPOINT?!! I feel bad for the kid who was worried about his homework being lost and getting in trouble at school. Now that's a kid who isn't gonna grow up to rob children at bus stops!
So the braodripple trash epidemic continues. Last friday the garbage men didn't pick up the trash because it was like -20 degrees. Now a week, 6 more bags, and 30+ degrees later the trash is still on the curb. I can understand not working when it's dangerously cold, but what about this week? The entire broadripple area has two weeks of garbage in front of their homes. Maybe I'll just tell the government it's too cold to pay taxes this year.
I was strolling through the square on this reasonably nice January day, and noticed a couple more closings to add to your list. The big AC Delco transmission building/old firehouse(??) has for sale signs. And "Jay's Moving Co" (which I thought was one of the oldest residents in the area) also has a for sale/lease sign in the window. Who the hell is gonna move all those transmissions?!!
So I got a ticket today on Prospect for not wearing my seatbelt. DAMMIT! How the hell could he possibly have seen that?! especially considering how fast I was speeding past him over the limit! Oh well, at least it's only a $25 ticket, but still! catch a murderer or something!
Alright, this has been stewing in me for a while, specifically, since the last week of September. I was never so happy for Fountain Square than I was that week. I saw a tattoo parlor move into the theatre building as well as a couple really cool spots like a Spa and a printer move into vacant places/antique shops. I was stoked. That's exactly what the area needed.
So, a week later, the tattoo parlor disappears... ok... the printer people act like total dicks to me... fine... the cool little artsy shop ("Gnosis" I think) puts up a sign saying they're moving to Broadripple... and all this happened in about a week span... then winter happened.
Jesus H... WTF? If somebody doesn't want to take a chance on the Square, fine, but what's with the half-assed attempts? I was hoping the new additions would translate into spring and summer attractions for all Indy, and do something to help out the area, but they didn't even try to make it through winter! It's like the local culture migrated..... NORTH!
What the hell do we have to do to get (and keep) quality shops in the Square?
How long do we have to look at the burnt wreckage of the IHOP on sixteenth and Meridian. Why hasn't it been torn down? Even a gravel lot would look better. This is one of the main arteries of the city and the rest of the scenery and buildings reflect the positive image that's important for visitors' experience, especially as we try to uphold our reputation as a world class city. Hopefully by the 2012 Super Bowl, this is one of the areas that gets some much needed attention.
Thank you road commission for getting the highways clear and thank you for forgetting my road so I could get stuck in a intersection and not get out. Thank you for making me late to work and yell at an old lady to mind her business.
They are stupid. Do they really want to see what I look like "underneath it all"? I think its absolutely ridiculous that they have to go to such extreme measures to determine whether or not I have a knife hidden in my bra. Are these being implemented in other cities as well? If so, I call for a full, large scale protest against TSA. I understand that 9/11 happened, but seriously, are we not privy to our own personal privacy anymore? What's up next? Homing devices in panties?
I fly in and out of the Indy airport a lot and it used to be very out of date. The new Indy airport is gorgeous and very practical. It functions like a well oiled machine, the security is fast and friendly, there has never been a delay for me and the new entrance is very easy to access. However, isnt it the little things that count? I had a chicken pesto sandwich while waiting for my plane at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant and it was the worst airport food I have ever had. Yes it sucks normally but this was the worst of the worst. All I'm saying is use the money you spent on one of the "moving walkways" and put in a restaurant that has some people who can make a decent fucking turkey sandwich! Doesn't seem that hard, it's the little things that matter.
The Colts couldnt stop a guy 5'6" from running the ball all over the field and making them look like keystone cops unable to catch a burglar, but the steelers shut him down with no problem haha, I'm trading in my blue gear for those men In black, GO STEELERS!
My fiance and I are planning a wedding for next fall. In the quest to have our wedding be as stellar as possible on a budget it has occured to me that the word "budget" does not exist in many vocabularies. We met with a wedding planner at Trader's Point Creamery and when we expressed that it was out of our budget she assured us she would help us find a great venue. After sending her a few emails and never recieving a response it occured to me that she didn't want to deal with us unless we were prepared to drop some fat cash. Now we've moved past the venue and on to photographers. All I'm asking is for a couple hours of your time on a Saturday afternoon, when it will probably be a shitty day anyway since its in November. I understand that it takes time to edit and what not but come on! The only reason why they charge so much is that its considered an "art". I am a designer and consider my job to be of an art form and I don't make half of what they make. If you have the word "wedding" in an info request form you can be sure that the price you will see will be severely inflated. I can't believe that people actually spend the money that they do for one day. We made the mistake of telling people that we didn't want to go into debt to pay for our wedding...another no no. One would think that we would be praised for conserving on our budget but instead are repeatedly turned away. Last time I checked we were in a recession....word to the wise, don't plan a wedding during a recession.
Selling books to Half Price Books is a RIPOFF!! I took in several boxes full of good books. I got $7.00!!! Hardly worth my time and you know they make way more than $7.00 for all those books!! Just needed to vent!
After mayor Ballard's $30,000 trip (which we paid for) what has come of it? This well-publicized trip promised some sort of economic initiative. What was it? What happened for all that money? We've heard nothing about it since he came back, even though he's been on the news SEVERAL times since coming back. Today, he was on channel 13 encouraging us to drop off our old electronics at Broadripple Park... What about the $30,000 trip to Asia?!!
The garbage men in broadripple are finally on time, however, now on trash day when I look down the street, it's littered with trash from the entire block. Maybe the garbage men hate waking up early, maybe they hate smelling like fish and diapers all day, or maybe they drive a Ford taurus... but it's no reason to treat your job and our environment like the garbage you see every day.
We all have them- false friends. These are the 'friends' that only call you when they want/need something. They are self-absorbed and selfish in life and expect you to jump when they call...but they act really nice and sweet to get you to do whatever it is they want at the time. They are hard to see at first because you get blinded by their sweetness/niceness in the beginning of the friendship. Case in point, I 'had' a friend who was this way, but I over-looked her 'bad' traits because her kids and mine played together a lot. Even though there were things that she did I didn't agree with or things in her past I didn't condone I still became friends with her, actually great friends. Of course one of the things she would do is dump her kids on me to watch whenever something came up that she wanted to do without the kids. I didn't judge her for these traits. I accepted her for who she was.
So one night we watched a movie together, kids and all, and a few days later I go over to her house and she acts like I've done something bad to her. She finally decides to tell me that the other night when we were over at her house watching the movie she said her daughter told her that my son told her a dirty word and that her daughter went on the internet and was looking it up and got caught looking up the dirty word. While she is telling me this her OWN son is standing there and says, "it was in the movie we were watching that said the bad word." She immediately cuts him off and says that's not what happened. Her son's story sounds more plausible than my son just going up to her daughter, who by the way is 2 years older than my son, and telling her a bad word.
So I decide to check out her son's story and I re-rented the movie and sure enough in the movie the main character yells out this 'dirty' word. And to top off the story the main character's name in the movie is the exact same name as my son's name. So I tell my 'friend' about the movie and the character saying it and his name and my 'friend' says she doesn't want to get into the he said/she said of the matter and that we are better off going our separate ways as friends. I wasted 4 years of babysitting her kids and helping her clean her house and helping her with her work and this is what she ends our friendship over?
Lesson to learn from this rant? If you know of a friend like this where they never call you to just see how you are doing or when they call the call always seems to come back to them and what they need- don't be fooled by these people! Don't be swayed by their 'sneaky ways'. Just don't bother with them because they will always be self-absorbed and won't ever change.
I doubt if you are really a smoker. More than likely a disguised smoker critic.
You speak of driving in the car noticing smokers with kids and want more laws to protect them. The car you are noticing is probably behind a semi or a bus spewing far more chemicals into the air or maybe they are driving right by an unprotected pond they could slip off the road and drown in.... as, sadly, many do everyday. That is a far worse dangerous and immediate situation!!
What about the thousands of "real" child abuse cases which laws dont protect the children from death or suffering and happen everyday?
Or what about the fact you are not paying attention to your own driving and you are posing a risk to the car with kids because you are so busy noticing what the drivers are doing and if their window is rolled down?
Do you talk on your cell phone when driving while also taking the time to notice what others are doing or not doing in their own cars? If so, you are unlikely to admit that you do, but you are a greater risk than a smoker with their window down smoking a cigarette.
You choose to not smoke around your kids, okay, but why do you want a "law" to force people to do what you think is a good idea?
If you need an idea to champion the cause, there are plenty of serious life threatening things to lobby against. I cant stand someone who wants a "law" for everything they dont agree with.
I'm a smoker, but I respect others. I don't sit and blow it in other peoples faces. However, as a mother myself, I see cars with their children in the back, windows rolled up or barely cracked, smoking. How do you find this ok? What's wrong with you people? This should be considered abuse. Nothing makes me more sick in my stomach then seeing a child having to breath in this disgusting air due to poor parenting. Some may say, "Well I blow it out the window..." Well, it doesn't matter! They're still inhaling disgusting second hand smoke that they can't escape from, all because you can't wait 10-20 minutes for a cig? I can't even smoke in my house because of my child, it's not fair to him. And what makes the government say that throwing out a cig from your car is illegal but yet we can suffocate our children who can't speak????
So many new faces at LA Fitness this week. Im guessing it has to do with resolutions. The first week of the new year is like black friday for gyms, but unlike the stores that make money just one day, the gyms milk the monthly payment for the rest of the year. How long will it take for the gym to go back to normal? Im gonna say february. Nice try people, better luck next year.
Alright, what's the deal with guys at the gym? Yes, I understand that it's a lockerroom and there's going to be naked men. But the male body is just not the prettiest thing in this world. For Gods' sake, put your clothes on first before doing other things! I don't care how comfortable you supposedly are with your body, other people probably don't want to see it. Have some respect.
There was a guy at the Downtown Y the other day who had a conversation with another guy the entire 5 minutes it took me to get ready... all while wearing nothing but a t-shirt! Dude! Put your damn balls away! I have to wonder if the guy he was talking to was offended, or at least confused. It takes about two seconds to put some boxers on, why not? And then there was a guy at the Jordan Y last week who was just hangin out watching TV in his towel... balls and all on show. (Why is there a lounge in the lockerroom anyway? I dunno... but put your clothes on before greasing up the chairs with your man-juice cocktail!) I think I'd have less of a problem with guys wanting to be naked around other guys because they're gay, that would at least seem normal. But these guys seem to be doing it to prove their manliness. Weird. Gross. Old balls.
I am sorry to say, regardless of whether or not she was walking where she shouldn't have been, the IMPD needs to start polishing their image. Apparently the girl was intoxicated and well as we all know, we don't do the smartest things when we are three sheets to the wind. It's well known in Indianapolis that there are police officers who take advantage and these silent runs come at the cost of innocent civilians. Something needs to be figured out soon because I am tired of being ran off the road by a police car with no lights and sirens because they don't want to scare a criminal. Does my safety not matter anymore?
To add to it- hopefully they take away their cars to use as personal vehicles. There is absolutely no reason for the taxpayers to fund their Sunday drives (or races I should say).
So, I was watching the news the other day and they had a story about the girl that was struck by the police car. I would agree that it is sad that some one lost their life but I have to ask my self.. Why the hell was she out walking in the middle of the night? She had 2 children at home that was 6 and an 18 month old...She was twenty years old. Which would have made her 14/15 when she had the first child. Shouldn't she have been at home taking care of her children instead of trapsing through dimly lit streets??
Like a bad case of VD, potholes are in full force again this year. In particular, there's one at Kessler & Kingsley I've named "The Widowmaker." It's about a foot and a half wide, a foot deep, and if that's not enough, there's a cement island in the middle of this crater that puts the finishing touches on your wheel. And just so you know that it's one bad muh'fucker, there are tire shards and hubcaps scattered around it any given day. Luckily, I'm wise to the Widowmaker but I always check my rearview and hope that the schmuck behind me isn't.
To start off the new year the Indy police took another blow to their image when a 20 year mother of two died after being hit by a speeding cop car on its way to a call with no lights or sirens. The Indy police don't seem to be able to go a month without some sort of blunder. It never fails. Clean it up coppers. You're losing our respect more than ever, in a time when we need you most.
Celebrated the New Year at Peppers in Broadripple. Live music... horrible. Crowd... vulgar. Countdown... lame. The only positives... Bartenders and $100 tab that was miraculously dropped to $24.68.
Almost made it worth while.
